Talking to the Sunday Times Style Magazine, she said: “I was, like: where did these come from? Those little things were insidious. Even though you can brush them off, you still internalise them. They make you question yourself and think: well, maybe I am unhappy with the size of my breasts.”

The actress, who has been in the public eye since she was seven-years-old, admits it has been a real struggle at times.

“I’ve had to look at Hollywood my whole life", she said. "The people I’ve been comparing myself to are people who are not real.”

Moretz is well known to be outspoken on issues that matter to her and her next project is no exception.

The actress's latest film is The Miseducation of Cameron Post, which is about a teenage girl sent to a Christian “gay conversion” camp to “cure” her homosexuality.

Speaking to The New York Times, the actress revealed why this topic is particularly personal for her.

“Having two gay brothers and growing up a natural advocate for the L.G.B.T. community, it already played a very close, personal place in my heart.

“When you see people weaponize Christianity in this horrifically abusive psycho-manipulation, I think it’s so, so sad and hypocritical because you can’t call yourself a Christian but also try to condition people to hate themselves.”

Curre ntly it’s estimated that 700,000 Americans have undergone conversion therapy. 14 states and the District of Columbia now ban the practice for minors.

Moretz hopes that by depicting a young gay person on the big screen, it will help those searching for their own identities.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post will be released nationwide in cinemas 7 September 2018.
