First Baptist Church announces 2018-2019 season of Music on the Corner

WINCHESTER â€" First Baptist Church in Winchester has announced its 2018-2019 schedule for its Music on the Corner series. This series of musical events will feature guest artists as well as choirs and ensembles from the church.

The first concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary. The church is on the corner of Washington and Piccadilly streets.

Sunday’s program features the organ and trombone duo twoResonate with James Martin on the trombone and Daniel Miller playing the organ. The program will include works by well-known composers Gustav Holst, Franz Liszt, Steven Sondheim and Alexandre Guilmant, and by less well-known composers John Purser and Anthony Plog. John Romano, clarinet, will make a guest appearance playing Leo Sowerby’s “Ballade” for clarinet and organ.

Other concerts in the series are:

Oct. 21 at 4 p.m.: Celebra ting the Laster Legacy. A program of compositions by Shenandoah University professor emeritus James Laster performed by area musicians. Co-sponsored by the Winchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. The Singin’ Seniors of First Baptist Church will present their Fall Musical “Songs of Thanksgiving.”

Feb. 17, 2019, at 4 p.m. An Afternoon of Duets. A program of vocal and keyboard duets by FBC musicians Lori Horne Pendelton and Eileen Gilliland, voice, and Leslie Hughes Robertson and Dan Miller, piano and organ.

April 7, 2019 at 4 p.m. Shenandoah Conservatory Choirs in Concert. A spring concert featuring the Conservatory choral ensembles.

April 28, 2019, at 4 p.m. The Blue Ridge Singers present their spring concert entitled “Oh, What A Glorious Day!”.
