Before Ayushmann Khurrana's Badhaai Ho, these 5 Bollywood movies dealt with social taboos

Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana's recently released film Badhaai Ho is not only doing wonders at the box office but is also being applauded because of its unique concept. Helmed by Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Junglee Pictures, the movie also stars Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao in key roles. It talks about a middle-aged couple getting pregnant and how the family and society reacts to it.

Well, this is not the first film which has motivated people to talk about a social taboo. Bollywood with its unique concepts is known for influencing people's thoughts and many films like PadMan and Margarita with a Straw have proved to be a conversation sta rter.

Take a look at five Hindi films which dealt with social taboos.

1 PadMan - Starring Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles, PadMan is woven around the age-old taboo of menstruation. Based on a true story, it narrates the tale of a man who makes low-cost sanitary napkins.

2 Subh Mangal Savdhan - Helmed by R.S. Prasanna, the movie features Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurrana as the lead. Subh Mangal Savdhan talks about erectile dysfunction and how Mudit and Sugandha (Ayushmann and Bhumi) try to find a solution when their relationship undergoes a setback after Mudit suffers from the same.

3 Lipstick Under My Burkha - In our country, women and sexuality are usually not used in t he same sentence, but Alankrita Shrivastava's drama comedy talks about the desires of a female. It is woven around women from different phases of life trying to live their best life despite the circumstances. It stars Aahana Kumra, Konkona Sen Sharma, Plabita Borthakur and Ratna Pathak in the lead role.

4 Margarita with a Straw - Starring Kalki Koechlin in the lead role, this film talks about cerebral palsy and bisexuality. Directed by Shonali Bose and Nilesh Maniyar, it is woven around Kalki's character and her struggles.

5 My Brother Nikhil - With Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Suri in the lead, My Brother Nikhil is o ne of the many attempts of Bollywood to speak the word AIDS and make sure that the audience doesn't get awkward. It also talks about homosexuality.
