Hollywood Crew Bringing High-End Productions To KELOLAND

TEA, S.D. - A new company in Sioux Falls is hoping to bring high-end video productions to KELOLAND. Top Secret Films is rolling so far by using its ties to Hollywood to bring in quality talent. A commercial shoot this week features the legendary cinematographer behind Jurrassic Park as well as a Director from Los Angeles.

From actors to cameras and cranes, this building in Tea is being transformed by a group from Tinseltown.

"I love what I do. I've wanted to do this since I was a kid," Dean Cundey said.

Cundey is the director of photography for this commercial shoot. He's the legendary cinematographer behind movies such as Apollo 13, Back To The Future and Jurassic Park. That last movie franchise is still roaring at the box office.

"You know I haven't been to see the new ones. I just did the first one. The one that I consider to be the best for obvious selfish reasons," Cundey said.

Cundey is in town because of his friendship with Sioux Falls-native turned Hollywood Director Nick Simon.

"We started this company, so being able to come back here and bring people from there here is going to be fun," Simon said.

Simon and Rob Stiff created Top Secret Films over the summer. The goal is to bring high-end productions to South Dakota, a state Simon says encourages film crews to get in the ring.

"I grew up here. I always wished we had stuff like that here," Simon said.

"There is a demand for many businesses, large and small in the Sioux Falls area, for high-end production," Stiff said.

This is the final day of shooting. After Thursday, Cundey, Simon and the actors from Los Angeles will head back to Ho llywood.

Much of the state of the art technology used to make the commercial will stay here.

"We're crewed up across the board from everything from lighting, grip, sound. One of the best sound guys in the whole Midwest here today," Stiff said.

Combine that with the talents from the West Coast and you have a unique product to offer right here in the Sioux Falls area.

"Outside of the fact that the falls are really interesting, it seems like a really great town. It's the classic image, I guess, of middle America," Cundey said.

It's a part of the country Cundey can endorse. And that's coming from a man who knows a lot about crafting the perfect images.

Thursday's shoot was for Southern Careers Institute in Texas. Top Secret Films is just getting started and plans on shooting commercials for local companies in the future. If you'd like to see some of Director Nick Simon's work, one of his lat est films, "Truth Or Dare," is on Netflix.
