Luis Fernando Belthran, 24, died after his friend crashed into a tree shortly after 3 a.m. in Pembroke Pines.

Belthran, of Hollywood, was pronounced dead at 3:55 a.m. at Memorial Regional Hospital.

He was in the back seat and not wearing a seatbelt when Jada Cooke, 18, veered off the road in her black Nissan Altima and slammed into a tree in the 1500 block of Northwest 186 Ave., police say.

Cooke, of Hollywood, and another passenger, a 17-year-old teenage girl from Fort Lauderdale, were injured.

Police are not identifying the teen b ecause of her age.

The accident remains under investigation.
