Peter Alexander Officially Joins NBC's 'Today' as Saturday Co-Anchor

Alexander had previously been filling in on the show for Craig Melvin, who recently left his role as co-host of the Saturday morning version of 'Today' to join the weekday edition, as well as continue his hosting duties on 'MSNBC Live With Craig Melvin.'

NBC News' Peter Alexander is officially joining Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer on Weekend Today as co-anchor, the network announced Saturday.

On Saturday, Alexander joined the show to announce the news.

"We are so excited to announce that Peter is officially joining the Saturday Today team. Congratulations,&quo t; co-anchor Jones said.

Alexander said that he had been a longtime fan of the show. "I've been watching this show since I was a kid and I am so honored, I'm so grateful to share this set with you guys," he said, adding that he'd been apart of the NBC News family for 15 years and "I've learned so much from so many people in this system."

The 42-year-old Emmy-winning journalist joined NBC News in 2004, covering numerous international stories, including Iraq's historic 2005 election and Osama bin Laden's death, according to NBC. He also served as NBC News' White House correspondent since 2012.

Alexander had previously been filling in on the show for Craig Melvin, who recently left his role as co-host of the Saturday morning version of Today to join the weekday edition and continue his hosting duties on MSNBC Live With Craig Melvin.
