The Most Popular Horror Movie in Each State

It's still not too late to start a marathon of classic horror movies leading up to Halloween. If you're looking for a place to start, refer to the map below to find out the most beloved horror flick in your state.

To plot the country's horror tastes by region, Streaming Observer pulled data from Rotten Tomatoes, proprietary Amazon MTurk surveying, and other public sources to make a list of the most popular horror movies of all time. From there, they looked at Google Trends data to determine which horror movies people were searching for in which states.

Some classic scary movies have nationwide appeal, including The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Shaun of the Dead (2004), and The Exorcist (1973 )â€"each of which topped searches in multiple states. Other movies earned the most popularity points in the states where they were set, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) in Texas, The Shining (1980) in Colorado, and The Blair Witch Project (1999) in Maryland. Plenty of modern hits, like Get Out (2017) and The Witch (2015), also made the list, as well as true classics like King Kong (1933) and Frankenstein (1931).

If you're looking for more titles to add to your horror movie watch-list this October, we have some suggestions.
